Happy Fourth of July 2009

There are still technically a couple of hours still remaining in July 3rd, but with the sound of fireworks booming somewhere nearby, I thought it would be appropriate to wish everyone at SaturnFans.com a Happy Independence Day a little early.

GM Frustrates Saturn Retailers, Puts them in a Competitive Bind

Two days after the Wall Street Journal reported that General Motors has been formally discouraging Saturn retailers from touting Roger Penske's planned purchase of the brand, comes word that GM has also pulled funding for a number of popular incentive programs that were previously offered by Saturn stores.

June 2009 Saturn Sales Down 60%

Saturn stores delivered 7,520 vehicles in June, down 60.2% from the same time last year when sales consultants sold 18,912 cars and crossovers. Year-to-date sales are down 58.1% to 42,776 units. The Outlook was the only model in Saturn's lineup to record a sales increase last month.

Giving Back: Saturn of South Burlington Plays Up Philanthropic Mission

Myra Mathis Flynn from the Burlington Free Press: If car companies are having tough economic times, you wouldn't know it by looking at Saturn of South Burlington. Their philanthropic presence has been alive and well in the community for years and they aren't going to let a pesky little recession hold them back.

For me, it is because I have owned other cars that rusted out over time, were always in need of repair, were hard to service, etc... So I knew after buying my first Saturn in 1993 that I had finally found a nice road handling, well built, dependable, long lasting car

Car companies require the bottom line to survive, and the bottom line happens to be money. The killer for Saturn can be easily summed up by saying "the average consumer is clueless"

We all know Saturn cars are great cars but let me give you a classic example of the average consumer mentality

A women I worked with was looking to buy a new car. I recommended Saturn to her. She later told me she looked at Saturns and felt the interior appeared somewhat cheap. She ended up buying a Pontiac GrandAm. Her car spent a lot of time in the repair shop but hey, at least her interior didn't appear cheap

Cudos to Saturn and the people who made it happen! I have to credit Saturnfans.com for building such an awareness (including my own) about this site -- this thing is really taking off.
