Saturn/Orvis Outdoor Adventure Media Event

To really appreciate a vehicle, you have to see how it fits the way you work and play. That’s why Saturn partnered with the Orvis Company this week to introduce a group of journalists to a combination of fun and efficient cars, twisty roads, fly fishing and target shooting. I know…it’s a tough job but somebody has to do it. We started the morning in the town of Fishkill, NY (about 2 hours north of NYC) with the “Saturn Vue Hybrid Challenge.” The rules were pretty simple: teams of two journali… Continue

Nifty Astra feature #2 - Delayed Headlamps

This is another neat thing about the Astra. If you're leaving the car in the dark and would like to use the headlights to light your way, you can set it to run the exterior lights for a 30 seconds after you exit. That allows the headlights to light your path back into the house, for example. I like the fact that this is selectable as there are times when you don't want to light up the world when you leave the car, and times when you do. To turn on the delayed headlamps: - Ignition off, key rem… Continue

Nifty Astra feature #1

One of the neat things about the Astra (at least to me!) is the number of little doodads that the car has. As we run across these non-obvious things I'll try to remember to blog about them. As I'm one of the three people on the planet that actuallly reads their owner's manual, I'm likely to find a bunch of these. :-) Today's nifty feature is appropriate as the weather is starting to heat up here in DC. It's called "Comfort Open Windows" and uses your remote keyless entry (RKE). Once you'… Continue

3rd Annual North American Solstice/Sky Meet

It is 9 a.m. in Vegas and I'm on my way to check out a club meet I heard was in town. On the way to the parking lot host area..like bee's drawn to honey..we are passing two seater convertibles in red, yellow, blue, green..not many black or silver in this bunch..all going the same direction..my taxi driver even asked if I knew what kind of cars are those?? Those I said are Saturn's..he was pointing at two Sky's infront of us. I think his eyes almost popped out of his head. Then he qouted the comm… Continue

Friedhelm Engler – Design Director of Saturn Astra

As you probably know, the Astra was designed at the GM Europe Design Center in Russelsheim, Germany. The design team was led by Friedhelm Engler. Although Friedhelm is now based in China, leading some future GM designs, here are some of his thoughts on the Astra… and design in general. In addition, make sure to check out this…
